Wine Society

The Pencombe & Little Cowarne Wine Society holds five themed, tutored tastings each year .  Meeting price is £15.00 per person.

The Pencombe and Little Cowarne Wine Society launched in September 2021 with a memorable tasting of Majestic’s Definition range, led by Ben from the Hereford store — a fantastic evening that set the tone for what has become a thriving, enthusiastic group.

Since then, we’ve grown into a friendly community of wine‑lovers keen to explore bottles from across the world. We hold five themed, tutored tastings each year, offering members the chance to discover new favourites and deepen their knowledge in a relaxed, enjoyable setting.

We’re pleased to keep the meeting price at £15.00 per person for as long as possible. Each evening also includes a raffle for a quality bottle linked to the theme — tickets are £1 each or £5 for a strip.

Advance booking is essential to help us plan the tastings.

If there’s a wine region, grape variety, or theme you’d love us to explore in a future session, we’d be delighted to hear your ideas.

Originally founded in 1924, our WI has a long and proud history. After a pause during and after the world wars, it was re‑established in 1971 and has been meeting continuously ever since — celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2021. Today, we’re a friendly group of 19 members, each bringing different interests, experiences, and stories.

Whether you’ve lived locally for years or have recently moved to the area, the WI is a wonderful way to meet new people, build friendships, and get involved in a supportive, welcoming community.

Why not come along one evening and see what we’re all about?

Each meeting begins with a short business section, followed by a talk, activity, discussion, or social event. We round off the evening with a cup of tea and a chat, usually finishing around 9:30pm. Take a look at our programme to discover the variety of speakers, activities, and summer outings we enjoy.

There’s no pressure to join straight away — visitors are always welcome. However, membership comes with great benefits, including reduced meeting fees, a monthly magazine, and access to a wide range of County and National WI activities, from craft and cookery workshops to social campaigns and online events.
